This gallery and studio supports artists with intellectual disabilities

Art is all about self-expression and for 50 years, Arts Project Australia has been sharing the individual voices, talents and styles of artists with intellectual disabilities – all while advocating for their inclusion in contemporary art practice.

The Naarm/Melbourne-based creative social enterprise empowers people to become professional artists with access to high-quality materials and mentors in a supportive environment. From painting to ceramics and animation, their work is exhibited in the gallery, with many artists going on to gain paid opportunities or international representation.

As the first full-time art studio in Australia for artists with an intellectual disability, Arts Project Australia’s world-class creative program fosters authenticity and originality by nurturing these passionate artists. This impactful and joyful platform really goes to show the vibrancy of divergent voices.
